New on Skills IL: Courses (May 26)

Hey,

I want to tell you the story behind the new section on the site, because the story itself explains why it's interesting. Agent skills started as a technical tool: workflows, automations, instructions telling an agent how to do a task. That's how Anthropic framed it, and that's how I started too. But the more I used skills, the more I saw that a skill is really just a folder with organized information and maybe a few scripts. The agent reads it, and suddenly it has full context on one specific topic. No magic. So I asked myself: why not fill those folders with the information we actually need here in Israel? Bituach Leumi, income tax, invoices, forms, all the bureaucracy a global agent doesn't know. That's how Skills IL was born, with over 180 skills that understand Israel a bit better. Then two weeks ago, in the middle of something completely unrelated, it clicked: if a skill is organized information on a topic, how is that different from a course? The thought wouldn't leave me. I realized it's the same thing, only split into chapters with a learning sequence. So I built a module that takes a skill and turns it into a course, and that's the surprise: a brand new Courses section on the site. Every course can be studied on the site chapter by chapter, or installed as a skill in your own agent, so when you ask it a question on the topic, it answers from the course.

New on the site: Courses

Four courses are already live, each split into six short chapters you can read in about 15 minutes. A progress bar remembers where you stopped, and a 'Found an error?' button on every chapter so you can help us fix things.

Course: The Israeli Freelancer Year

A strategic calendar for the Israeli freelancer. 12 deadlines with the Tax Authority and VAT, six timing decisions that change how much tax you'll pay, and a working protocol with the authorities. For freelancers, osek patur and osek murshe, no tax background needed.

Course: The Israeli Pension System, Decoded

The course I wish I had read years ago. A two-question decision tree that tells you which track you're on, a comparison of the major pension funds, and the up-to-date 2026 numbers for employees and self-employed. No pension jargon, no pressure to buy a fund.

Course: AI Agents for Everyone

A course for non-developer Israelis. What an AI agent actually is, how to set one up in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini without writing a single line of code, and four real Israeli use cases. If someone told you 'you have to start using agents' and you didn't know where to begin, this is the place.

Course: Writing Your First Agent Skill

This one is for developers. The anatomy of a SKILL.md file, when to use the references folder vs the scripts folder, and the ten most common mistakes I've seen people make when writing a skill from scratch. Once you finish it, you can publish your own skill to the catalog.

Popular new skill: Israeli Price Quote Generator

The most installed skill since the last update. Builds price quotes for osek patur, osek murshe, or LLCs, with correct 18% VAT, a header that matches your business status, and payment terms per the Late Payments Law (Net+30 by default, max Net+45 between businesses).

Popular new skill: Discharged Soldier Rights Navigator

One of the most viewed skills since the last update, and probably not by coincidence. It calculates the personal deposit by service type (combat, combat-support, other), explains the gap between the 14-day deposit and the 60-day discharge grant, checks whether a planned withdrawal fits one of the six legal purposes, and covers the Iron Swords benefits for combat soldiers discharged from October 2023 onward.

Popular new skill: Lone Soldier Rights

A separate track for those classified as lone soldiers, distinct from the regular discharged-soldier path. Covers both the service phase (monthly stipend, rent and bills assistance, free flights home, special leave, weekend lodging at Bayit Chayal) and the post-discharge phase (up to ₪1,000/month rent support in year one, a 10-year benefits window vs. 5 years for regular soldiers, and links to the diaspora organizations).

Also: a full returning-resident toolkit

Three skills that work together: a returning-resident navigator for the first 90 days back (certificate, Bituach Leumi, HMO, driving), a tax planner for the toshav chozer vatik track (10+ years abroad, Section 14, what changes in 2026), and a customs + vehicle import planner. And for developers, a new skill for working with video-use in Hebrew that handles subtitles, BiDi, and fonts that don't break.

If you haven't joined yet, there's a quiet, friendly WhatsApp group for community members. That's where I post about new skills before anyone else, ask questions before deciding what to build next, and where a lot of the ideas already on the site came from. No spam, no marketing links. Just a conversation between people who care about the same thing.
